The Commonwealth Government works closely with stakeholders, including state and territory education authorities responsible for the employment of teachers, to develop strategies to support quality teaching and school leadership and to address current and future issues relating to the teacher workforce. Specifically, the Commonwealth:

works with states and territories to inform students of incentives available to undertake maths, science teaching courses and to enter the profession;

co-funds a national campaign to improve the status of teachers and promote teaching as a career choice;

supports the establishment of a national board of accreditation for pre-service teacher education courses;

consults with stakeholders to inform measures to improve pre-service teacher education and introduces measures identified in the process;

co-funds targeted support for teachers in disadvantaged schools;

leads the MCEETYA development of a national framework for teacher and school leader professional learning;

funds independent assessments of the efficacy of school leader preparation programs;

leads the development of national principles to guide employment reforms to improve career paths; and
-
investigates improved career pathways, pay structures and ways of recognising higher performance.
