The project supports a pilot project in each state and territory to develop, trial and evaluate forms of partnerships between universities, government and non-government school systems and schools.  The project seeks to create a research culture that will generate evidence.

Primary Connections is an innovative and exciting new initiative linking the teaching of science with the teaching of literacy in Australian primary schools.  It is a partnership between the Australian Academy of Science and the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations

Primary Connections aims to improve students' learning outcomes in science and literacy.  This will be achieved through innovative curriculum and professional learning resources that enhance teachers' confidence and competence for science teaching.

The project seeks to support the Asia Education Foundation (AEF) to lead and manage change in teacher knowledge, skills and practice in embedding studies of Asia and Australia across the curriculum in Australian schools through professional learning programs.

A key focus is to promote and support the implementation of the National Statement For Engaging Young Australians With Asia In Australian Schools, endorsed by all Ministers of Education through the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA), in all school sectors in Australia.
